In addition to the day-long activities, viewings of "Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic For Our Time" will be at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Escape to Necedah National Wildlife Refuge beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday to participate in fun winter hobbies. Learn how to tie flies, create wildlife themed cards, scrapbook pages, wild quilt squares, carve wooden birds, trap, skin and make pinecone birdfeeders. Take part in snowshoe hikes at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and mingle with volunteers and staff of the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. A free lunch will be provided by the Friends of Necedah National Wildlife Refuge. All activities are in the Necedah Refuge Visitor Center. The free event is open to the public and is sponsored by the Friends of Necedah National Wildlife Refuge. Activities end at 3 p.m.

This film documents Leopold’s philosophy and main interests – the relation of people to each other, and the relation of people to the land. It is also a positive view of conservation initiatives around the country, and the history of conservation, including local farm food.

Estella Leopold is a Professor emeritus in the Biology Department at University of Washington. As the daughter of famed conservationist and writer Aldo Leopold (1887-1948) Estella has earned her own renown through her pioneering work as a conservationist and scientist.
