"Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for our Time" shares highlights of his extraordinary career and how he shaped conservation and the modern environmental movement. Leopold's ideas remain relevant today, continuing to inspire projects nationwide that connect people and land.

The Colorado Environmental Film Festival (CEFF) is a celebration of the power of film to inspire, educate, and motivate audiences. CEFF presents thought-provoking films and dialogue that raise awareness of a wide variety of interconnected ecological, social, and economic themes. The Festival provides an experience for the audience that goes beyond passive film viewing: CEFF inspires audiences into awareness and action.

In addition to the day-long activities, viewings of "Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic For Our Time" will be at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Escape to Necedah National Wildlife Refuge beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday to participate in fun winter hobbies. Learn how to tie flies, create wildlife themed cards, scrapbook pages, wild quilt squares, carve wooden birds, trap, skin and make pinecone birdfeeders. Take part in snowshoe hikes at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and mingle with volunteers and staff of the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. A free lunch will be provided by the Friends of Necedah National Wildlife Refuge. All activities are in the Necedah Refuge Visitor Center. The free event is open to the public and is sponsored by the Friends of Necedah National Wildlife Refuge. Activities end at 3 p.m.

Kansas Wildlife Federation (KWF) is partnering with Kansas Association for Conservation & Environmental Education (KACEE) to host a free screening of Green Fire in conjunction with the KWF annual meeting.

The legacy of Aldo Leopold, legendary environmentalist, is depicted in a film created by the U. S. Forest Service and the Aldo Leopold Foundation. Dr. Jason Luscier, Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology at Austin College will host the program and introduce the film with brief remarks about Leopold and a reading from "A Sand County Almanac", in the Multi-purpose Meeting Room, Refuge Visitor Center. Free, open to the public.

The closing night film for the "Visions of Nature/Voices of Nature" Environmental Film Festival. Director Curt Meine will be present to introduce the film and take questions afterwards.

The Klamath County Library, in conjunction with the Fremont-Winema National Forest, is presenting the video Green Fire, Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for our Time, to be followed by a discussion. Works by and about Leopold from the library collection will be available for check-out.

This showing of the Green Fire movie is sponsored by the Sandhills Area Land Trust (SALT). As a living legacy of Aldo Leopold's work and philosophy, SALT seeks to conserve and protect watersheds used for drinking water, wetlands, riparian buffers, endangered Long Leaf pine ecosystems, wildlife habitat and corridors, cultural heritage sites and public use of conserved properties.

Dynamic Relationships: Man & Nature

Westchester Land Trust is proud to present the feature-length film, “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold & A Land Ethic for Our Time,” with commentary by Susan Todd, filmmaker and environmentalist. This film documents Leopold’s philosophy and main interests – the relation of people to each other, and the relation of people to the land. It is also a positive view of conservation initiatives around the country, and the history of conservation, including local farm food.

Event is free to the public and reservations are encouraged.

Presented by GREEN EARTH OUTDOORS, Green Fire explores the life and legacy of famed conservationist Aldo Leopold and the many ways his land ethic philosophy lives on in the work of people and organizations all over the country today. The film shares highlights from Leopold’s life and extraordinary career, explaining how he shaped conservation and the modern environmental movement. It also illustrates Leopold’s continuing influence, exploring current projects that connect people and land at the local level.

Green Fire proceeds will support Five Rivers MetroParks ‘Leaf’ a Legacy Reforestation program that aids in the protection of native trees and local forest ecosystems damaged by non-native invasive species.

The Raccoon River Watershed Association is hosting a celebration of life in the Raccoon River. Aldo Leopold would have been thrilled by the ecological perspective that will be shared through presentations on: water quality, mussels, minnows, eagles and mammals of the Raccoon River and watershed. Green Fire will be shown Friday evening March 2 and readings from Sand County Almanac will occur between session on Saturday. Special room rates at the Hotel Pattee are available for attendees.

Green Fire, the first full-length, high definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold, explores his life in the early part of the twentieth century and the many ways his land ethic idea continues to be applied all over the world today. Although probably best known as the author of the classic A Sand County Almanac, Leopold is also renowned for his work as an educator, philosopher, forester, ecologist and wilderness advocate. This state of the art film venue is located in the heart of the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington. The Indiana University Cinema is the center for the scholarly study of film at IU. It is the university’s first research facility where audiences can collectively revisit the cinematic works archived within Bloomington’s vast film print collections. It also offers a space where students can enjoy meaningful education experiences outside the classroom.
The film will be shown in high definition at this venue.

The Chico premiere of 'Greenfire' at the community's indie movie house is also the public debut of Up the Road, a nonprofit public interest media project focusing on sustainability.

This is one of our core environmental courses offered at our university on Sustainability. Leopold's Land Ethic is front and center in our discussions this day, and the remaining 8 weeks of the course.

Estella Leopold is a Professor emeritus in the Biology Department at University of Washington. As the daughter of famed conservationist and writer Aldo Leopold (1887-1948) Estella has earned her own renown through her pioneering work as a conservationist and scientist.

Outdoor Film Screening begins at Dusk

“Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time” a 72-minute film about well-known conservationist Aldo Leopold and how his legacy continues today through the work of people and organizations all over the country. Leopold attended forestry school at Grey Towers in the early 1900s, which inspired him to pursue a career teaching others about land ethics as a product of social evolution.
