I grew up in Madison Wisconsin, a quarter mile away from the UW Arboretum Curtis Prairie where I spent a lot of time running on the fire lanes admiring the surroundings of the tall grass prairie. I majored in geology, environmental studies, and Spanish at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA. In 2004 I attended Colorado State University where I received a Master’s Degree in rangeland (grassland) ecosystem science. I also have experience working on organic farms in Tennessee, Montana, and Salt Spring Island Canada with my husband, and my farmer, Josh. My career goal is to be a knowledgeable land stewardship manager and to share my knowledge and land ethic with community members and land owners.

I grew up on a lake just outside of a small town on the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in 2007 with major in Psychology, and minors in English and Environmental Studies. While in school I was drawn to Leopold's interest in understanding not only the relationship of people and the land but also understanding peoples relations with each other. He understood that both are critical to empowering the conservation movement. I hope to attend graduate school studying environmental education or animal behavior (my research focus while in school) after my time at ALF. Other interests include reading, running, camping, hiking, traveling.

I grew up in Michigan and graduated from the College of Wooster in Ohio in 2007 with a degree in biology. I aim to enroll in a MS program after my time at the ALF, where I will likely study something along the lines of ecosystem ecology. I am particularly interested in how humans are altering the natural cycles in ecosystems and how landscapes change, both physically and functionally. Other interests of mine include being outdoors (hiking, biking, camping) and various sports including soccer and tennis.

First, I would like to say how honored I am to be a part of the Aldo Leopold Foundation and to thank you all very much for this opportunity. My name is Mark Witecha. I was born and raised in Wisconsin Dells. I graduated from UW-Stevens Point in December of 2007 with a bachelor of science degree in wildlife ecology and management and a minor in conservation biology. My hobbies include playing guitar, being a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, and participating in just about every activity that Gander Mountain sells equipment for (especially bass fishing). My interests in conservation are mostly wildlife based. My strongest interest lies in habitat management for migratory birds. I am looking forward to working with all of you. Thank you again.
